Most power wheelchair users drive with a standard joystick. However, a wide variety of alternative joysticks are available to meet individual needs. This webinar will address heavy duty joysticks, mini proportional joysticks and a few other alternative joystick options. Joystick placement and mounting will also be covered, as this is critical to facilitate driving. Bring your own chocolate and questions!

Learning Outcomes:

The participant will be able to describe the difference between analog and digital control.
The participant will be able to list 3 different mini proportional joysticks and clinical indicators for each.
The participant will be able to describe clinical indicators for joystick placement at the hand vs. the chin.

Michelle is an occupational therapist with 30 years of experience and has been in private practice, Access to Independence, for 10 years. She is a well-respected lecturer, both nationally and internationally and has authored 6 book chapters and over 200 articles. She is the editor of Fundamentals in Assistive Technology, 4th ed., NRRTS Continuing Education Curriculum Coordinator and Clinical Editor of Directions magazine. Michelle is on the teaching faculty of RESNA. Michelle is a member of the Clinician Task Force. Michelle is a certified ATP, certified SMS and is a Senior Disability Analyst of the ABDA.
