Skills on Wheels is a pediatric wheelchair skills training program in Indianapolis. The program engages wheelchair-using children by teaching them the specific skills listed on the Wheelchair Skills Test (WST). Meanwhile, their parents and caregivers are engaged in an educational support group called Caregiver’s Corner. Research has shown of the impact of the program on increasing participation, reducing fear of falling, and increasing confidence for children involved. This course covers the overview of the program as well as tips and techniques for launching this type of community-engaged program. Occupational Therapy Doctoral Student engagement techniques are also discussed.
