PROGRAM ORGANIZATION & LAYOUT
The program is organized into three levels comprising 15 individual CEU courses. A certificate is awarded for the successful completion of each Level. Each course includes multiple lessons, knowledge checks, and a final quiz.
All the courses in the CRT Supplier Education Program refer to the textbook Seating and Wheeled Mobility: A Clinical Resource Guide by Michelle L. Lange and Jean L. Minkel. Order the book using the link below.
Please note that if you use an eBook version, the page numbers will not be the same as referenced for the print versions. You will need to pay attention to the book chapters and sections as referenced in the course narrative.
Level I – Available Now
Foundational knowledge of Complex Rehab Technology (CRT) is the key to becoming a valuable resource for the clinician. Understanding this foundation, including terminology, physiology, and diagnoses, improves outcomes for the CRT Consumer who relies on the expertise of the seating team to create the best seating and mobility system. Courses 1 through 10 make up this level. Also offered are “Learn More” segments that provide additional content and resources. Throughout Level I, participants can see webinars and read articles that are included as a bonus for those that want to dive deeper into the content.
As stated earlier, the textbook, Seating and Wheeled Mobility: a Clinical Resource Guide is required for this program. Course 2 and Course 3 are study guides for specific chapters. References to the textbook occur throughout Level I.
Course 1: The Role of the Complex Rehab Technology Supplier .2 CEU
CRT Suppliers need diverse knowledge to provide the best outcomes. This self-paced course takes the participant through an overview of types of people who use CRT, what is required of a supplier, what the supplier’s role is and what types of equipment are included in the CRT category. This base of knowledge is critical for anyone wanting to become a professional supplier.
Course 2: Observing the Interview and Sitting Balance Assessment .1 CEU
This course is actually a study guide based on Chapters 1, 3, 4 and 5 in the textbook, Seating and Wheeled Mobility. It is intended to help CRT Suppliers understand the process of observing a clinician complete a seating and mobility assessment, as well as understand the difference between the three types of sitters: Hands-free, hands-dependent, and prop sitters.
Course 3: Observing the Mat Assessment for Seating Impairments .1 CEU
Persons with long-term disabilities who require a wheeled mobility device benefit from a complete assessment that includes a review of their mobility and seating impairments through a mat assessment that focuses on seating assessment, supine assessment. pelvic mobility assessment and lower extremity range of motion assessment. The supplier must be an informed observer to gain the knowledge in order to provide the best technology match to meet the client’s needs.
Course 4: Skin Integrity .2 CEU
This course provides an overview of skin integrity. It describes the relationship between a client’s skin integrity and choices made in your role as a complex rehabilitation technology (CRT) supplier in regard to seating and mobility recommendations,
Course 5: Measuring the Client .1 CEU
A recent focus on research into the science of wheelchair seating has resulted in an increased amount of knowledge that can be utilized by CRT suppliers to better serve their clients. This includes standardization of how clients are measured and the terminology that is used in the measurement process.
Course 6: Basics of Diagnoses .3 CEU
In this course, you will be presented with not only the six most common diagnoses that are seen by CRT Suppliers, but also contextual information about their impairments, how we should work with them, and a brief overview of the landscape.
Course 7: Application of Postural Supports .2 CEU
Wheelchair seating and mobility evaluation and posture are interdependent clinical situations. Earlier courses have provided information about the client and that you will need to participate with a clinical team in the evaluation, prescription and provision processes. This course will begin the journey through seating and mobility technology, and overviews of how to match a person to equipment.
Course 8: Key Concepts of Wheeled Mobility .1 CEU
Wheelchairs play a crucial role in enhancing mobility and independence for individuals with limited mobility. Manual and power wheelchairs are each designed to cater to specific needs and preferences. Understanding the key concepts associated with these wheelchairs is essential for users, caregivers, and healthcare professionals alike. The lessons in this course will provide an overview of the key concepts of manual and power wheelchairs and will present case studies showing how these key concepts are assimilated into real life.
Course 9: Manual Wheelchairs .2 CEU
Manual wheelchair technology continues to improve and increase the benefits to the user. This course is designed to provide a fundamental understanding of manual wheelchairs, their usage, their construction, and their applicability, and will present case studies showing how these key concepts are assimilated into real life.
Course 10: Power Wheelchairs .3 CEU
This course is designed to provide a fundamental understanding of Power Wheelchairs (PWC), the categories of users and equipment, their construction and drive controls, their order forms, and the role of the CRT Supplier for training, configuration, fitting, and delivery.
Level II – Coming Soon
While Level I provides a basic, foundational knowledge of CRT, this level expands the learning and provides more specialized, focused material and content.
COURSE 11: Working with Children
Children who rely on CRT present differently than adults. Suppliers must take into consideration other factors such as growth and functional changes. Young children have needs for additional CRT equipment such as gait trainers, standers, and bathing equipment. CRT Suppliers must be able to make the right decision for the best mobility base that meets all the needs of the child, the parents, the therapists, and others involved in their care.
COURSE 12: Manual Wheelchair Fitting and Adjustment
The fitting and adjustment of manual wheelchairs can make or break the final outcome. It’s been said many times throughout the course that one inch can make a huge difference. This course explains how to look at the client in the chair and how to set it up for best function.
COURSE 13: Power Wheelchair Fitting and Adjustment
Understanding the fitting of powered mobility is critical to obtain the best outcome for the client. The CRT Supplier must observe the client driving and using power seat functions. Safety is paramount. This course provides a guideline on the process of fitting a power mobility system.
COURSE 14: Programming Power Mobility
Today’s power wheelchair electronics offer many benefits to the user and many people are not utilizing all the functions that are offered by this technology. It is a huge disservice to the client when these options are not provided.
Each power chair should be individually programmed to suit the needs of the client. By understanding all the different, available options, CRT Suppliers can make driving an easier task, whether they are using a standard joystick or an alternative drive.
COURSE 15: Best Practice, documentation, and ethics
As the final course of Level II, participants will look at case scenarios and how decisions must be made in an ethical manner. Suppliers have the responsibility to document their interaction with the client, including client measurements and home environment evaaluation. Every profession has best practice guidelines. This course focuses on why documentation is important and why there is a need to provide services in an ethical manner.
Level III – Coming Soon
Level III is a practical demonstration of the skills that have been studied in courses 1 through 15. This 4 hour lab consists of several exercises designed to show an understanding of the hands-on part of the CRT Supplier role.

HOW TO ORDER, PURCHASE, AND ACCESS THE PROGRAM
Open the CRT Supplier Education Program Course Library, which is found by clicking the link at the very bottom of this page or by clicking COURSE LIBRARY in the utility menu at the top of each web page.
Select and click on the course you want to take.
You’ll be presented with a course description screen which includes – in addition to the course description – the Current Status (Enrolled / Not Enrolled), the Price of the course, and a button to Take the Course
Clicking ‘Take the Course’ will Open another description screen where you will be able to click ‘Add to Cart’, which places the selected course into the ‘Cart’ just like any other on-line purchasing routine.
You can now choose ‘Proceed to Checkout’ or visit the Cart later to checkout.
The Cart can be found in the menu at the top right-hand corner of every web page. Clicking the cart lists courses you have queued-up to take and allows you to proceed to checkout. Follow the instructions to complete the ordering process.
You will be presented with a form to complete which will require a credit card. Complete the form, enter your credit card information, and click continue. If you are a new user, you will enter a new user name and password which will grant access to the NRRTS Learning Portal and will be used throughout your learning experience on the NRRTS website for this program and any others you choose to take.
To access the Program courses you have ordered, click ‘Learning Portal’ in the menu bar at the top right of the website. Entering your username and password opens your individual Dashboard where you can view and access your orders, your enrolled courses, and other information. This is where you will go to begin using the CRT Supplier Education Program.
