Wheelchair mobility vendors often remember the names of their most “challenging” client’s years after assisting them. For these consumers, pain is such a critical factor that, when systematically assessed, measured, and tracked, even a single perceptible increase can trigger a cascade of negative physiological responses-potentially leading to weeks of lost function and mobility. By approaching seating and mobility interventions with empathy, attention, and responsiveness to pain, clinicians and vendors can empower clients to regain independence, participate more fully in daily life, and feel confident that their unique needs are
recognized and addressed
