The wheelchair industry is fortunate to have a rich soil for innovation. This session will offer a review of functional advantages of various materials used in back supports. How do different materials compare when pressure mapped? Which materials reduce shear in wheelchairs? Research findings, case studies, and data from clinical studies involving human subjects will be shared to explore different scenarios and special considerations for selecting the most appropriate back support design and materials for your clients. We will focus on the practical relevance of product testing data to the daily lives of our clients.
Learning Outcomes:
- Identify at least 2 manufacturing tests clinically relevant to prevention and management of pressure injuries.
- List 3 pressure mapping parameters valuable to a clinician.
- Demonstrate approaches to selecting the most appropriate seating surface using at least 1 clinical scenario.
